My views on makeing any phone into a smart phone:)

Guy's when you buy a phone. dont just jump for the services promised
by the manufacturer. Look for services that you can actually use.

example: whats the use of buying a 3G phone IN INDIA when India
DOESN'T have a 3G Network to support it?

Its like buying a house without a roof.

You dont need a smart phone to use in india. you NEED smartness.

I use a simple w550i and do almost everythin that a smart phone would
help me do.

Saving a wet phone from dying:

Once wet, the tiny circuits in the phone gets cros connected leading to errors of over flow of current leading to frying of the central IC chip set.
SO the basic idea is to keep it dry and stop the current flow.

1. switch off the phone immediatly.

2. seperate the battery from the case.

3. remove all the removable components.

4. keep it over night under a fan or table lamp, to dry.

5. you may use a hair dryer to dry the mother board.

6. make sure you know how to put the removed components safely back again:-)

7. save on going to a mobile shop for this.

Sony Ericsson XPERIA X1 review

XPERIA X1 is a phone belonging to the premier series of Sony Ericsson. The design of the phone and its innovative panel interface speaks for its uniqueness. The arc shaped metallic body phone with distinct surface finish is certainly a unique and a premium phone from the innovative workshop of Sony Ericsson. Experience this sophisticated and yet powerful trend setter, the Sony Ericsson XPERIA X1.
XPERIA X1 gets an arch shape when you slide the panel and you get access to full QWERTY type keyboard. The best thing about the keyboard of XPERIA X1 is that there is more spacing between the keys which significantly reduce the errors due to wrong pressing of wrong keys. The panel of the XPERIA X1 can be customized the way the users want it to. The screenshot of the phone will clearly explain this. With this Windows Mobile 6.1smartphone you can set anything on your home screen for quick access. However this feature is currently under debugging phase.

XPERIA X1 has
dimensions of 110 x 53 x 16.7 mm
weighs 145 grams.
2 mega pixel camera
very vibrant and lively 3” display
screen resolution of 800×480.

By far XPERIA X1 is the only smartphone to have such a good hardware and to prove this fact XPERIA X1 comes with Qualcomm’s MSM7200A CPU, 528 MHz, the best in its class. No doubt that XPERIA X1 is the most awaited phone of the year and is scheduled to be launched before end of 2008. So if you are planning to buy a new phone this new year, then XPERIA X1 is certainly the one to keep an eye on.

SAMSUNG Launches the World's First 10 Megapixel Camera Phone

[Samsung launches the SCH-B600 in Korea featuring a 10 megapixel camera.]

Seoul -- Samsung reinforces its technology leadership by launching the world's first 10 megapixel mobile phone (model: SCH-B600) in Korean market.

Samsung reached another milestone in camera phones by launching 10 megapixel camera phone, which was unveiled at CeBIT in March this year. Samsung has been the first to introduce mobile phone with embedded camera in 2000. Samsung has also launched the world's first 5 megapixel camera phone in October 2004 ; the world's first 7 megapixel camera phone in July 2005.

Samsung's 10 megapixel camera phone (SCH-B600) is 6mm thinner and 10g lighter than the 7 megapixel camera phone (SCH-V770) and sets itself apart from its previous megapixel camera phones by combining mobile TV capability in Satellite standard.

The B600 offers the same level of picture-taking sophistication that a 10 megapixel digital camera offers. The camera function includes 3x optical zoom and 5x digital zoom. It also has auto focus and a flash unit that performs optimally for 10 megapixel photographs.

Also, the B600 comes fitted with a LED autofocus feature which assists users to capture clear, crisp photos even in dark settings. Located next to the lens, the LED autofocus automatically determines the distance and utilizes the appropriate focus setting for optimal photo shooting.

The B600 also supports white balance, manual focus, continuous picture-taking, and interval picture-taking functions.

It also supports Bluetooth which enables users to send pictures wirelessly to other mobile phones, printers or to Bluetooth headsets.

The high color Reproduction TFT-LCD produces the highest possible display for its size. The photo-fine chromic LCD can reproduce 16 million colors, virtually any color found in nature, earning it the "True Color" appellation. Moving pictures can be recorded in QVGA resolution at 15-30 frames per second. Users can watch live TV in crisp picture through Satellite DMB function.

It also supports external memory (MMCmicro) in addition to its internal memory. The mobile phone supports a TV-out function where users can connect their phones to view still or motion pictures.

The B600 comes with a design reminiscent of a real digital camera. The front is designed as a bar-type mobile phone, while the back side is used as the digital camera.

Other advanced functions in the B600 include an MP3 player, business card reader, and 128 polyphonic sounds.

The price of B600 is around 900,000 won (about $ 900) in Korea.

There are several methodologies by which a mobile handset can be integrated into a VoIP network. One implementation turns the mobile device into a standard SIP client, which then uses a data network to send and receive SIP messaging, and to send and receive RTP for the voice path. This methodology of turning a mobile handset into a standard SIP client requires that the mobile handset support, at minimum, high speed IP communications. In this application, standard VoIP protocols (typically SIP) are used over any broadband IP-capable wireless network connection such as EVDO rev A (which is synchronously high speed — both high speed up and down), HSDPA, WiFi or WiMAX.

Another implementation of mobile integration uses a softswitch like gateway to bridge SIP and RTP into the mobile network's SS7 infrastructure. In this implementation, the mobile handset continues to operate as it always has (as a GSM or CDMA based device), but now it can be controlled by a SIP application server which can now provide advanced SIP based services to it. Several vendors offer this kind of capability today.

Mobile VoIP will require a compromise between economy and mobility. For example, Voice over Wi-Fi offers potentially free service but is only available within the coverage area of a Wi-Fi Access Point. High speed services from mobile operators using EVDO rev A or HSDPA may have better audio quality and capabilities for metropolitan-wide coverage including fast handoffs among mobile base stations, yet it will cost more than the typical Wi-Fi-based VoIP service.

Mobile VoIP will become an important service in the coming years as device manufacturers exploit more powerful processors and less costly memory to meet user needs for ever-more 'power in their pocket'. Smartphones in mid-2006 are capable of sending and receiving email, browsing the web (albeit at low rates) and in some cases allowing a user to watch TV.

The challenge for the mobile operator industry is to deliver the benefits and innovations of IP without losing control of the network service. Users like the Internet to be free and high speed without extra charges for visiting specific sites. Such a service challenges the most valuable service in the telecommunications industry — voice — and threatens to change the nature of the global communications industry.

Android
is a software platform and operating system for mobile devices, based on the Linux kernel, developed by Google and later the Open Handset Alliance. It allows developers to write managed code in the Java language, controlling the phone via Google-developed Java libraries,. Applications written in C and other languages can be compiled to ARM native code and run, but this development path isn't officially supported by Google.

The unveiling of the Android platform on 5 November 2007 was announced with the founding of the Open Handset Alliance, a consortium of 34 hardware, software, and telecom companies devoted to advancing open standards for mobile devices. Google has made most of the Android platform available under the Apache free-software and open source license.

T-Mobile G1

T-Mobile G1T-Mobile announced in August 2008 that they would deliver their first Android-powered device(the first of any mobile phone company to release one). It is based on a trio of T-Mobile, HTC and Google. There were a few typical features missing, such as video recording, zoom or manual focus in the camera, and the ability to use a Bluetooth stereo headset. However, it does have many features that most phones don't include, such as running on 3G or Wi-Fi, real web browsing, and the ability for anyone to develop and publish third-party applications. Third-party applications can use any of the phone's built in hardware (compass, accelerometer, GPS, and camera) and can therefore give this phone almost limitless possibilities. It was first known as the HTC Dream. It was available in the US from 22 October 2008 onwards, with a price tag of $179, subject to a two year contract. It was also made available in the UK from 30 October 2008.

Here goes the 24 Downsides of the Apple iPhone:

Although it has a 2 megapixel camera, you CANNOT record video clips

Although it’s being marketed as web device with the “real internet” with a “real browser” (Apple Safari), it DOES NOT SUPPORT FLASH, which is used on tons and tons of websites out there.

Although you can watch up to 10,000 videos on YouTube, you CANNOT VIEW ANY AND ALL VIDEOS FROM YOUTUBE.

Although you may be able to use Meebo or other sites as a work around for Instant Messaging, the iPhone DOES NOT SUPPORT INSTANT MESSAGING

Although it is an iPod, and although you can use a bluetooth headset for calls, the iPhone DOES NOT SUPPORT STEREO MUSIC STREAMING THROUGH BLUETOOTH HEADSETS, even if you have have the Jawbone or any other bluetooth headset capable of doing that with a A2DP supported phone.

You CANNOT LOAD YOUR OWN 3RD PARTY PROGRAMS onto the iPod. Classic Apple DNA, only proprietary, approved applications may be released by Apple (probably for a fee through iTunes!)

You won’t be able to sit in line and pull out your iPhone to play games, because the iPhone DOES NOT HAVE ANY GAMES. Games from the iTunes store are not compatible.

Although you can fill it up with 8 GIGS worth of mp3 songs from iTunes, you CANNOT CUSTOMIZE YOUR RINGTONES WITH MP3 SONGS

Although it has the “most advanced” interface using your fingers and the touch-screen, you CANNOT USE VOICE COMMANDS OR VOICE RECOGNITION OR VOICE DIALING.

The keyboard supposedly isn’t a real bother after you get used to it, but TYPING PERIODS AND COMMAS ARE A PAIN IN THE NECK, requiring you to go to a 2nd screen each time. Given that you use a period or comma in almost every sentence you type, this is NOT CONVENIENT.

Even though it has a 2 Megapixel camera, you CANNOT SEND PICS TO OTHER CELL PHONES VIA MMS PICTURE MESSAGING.

You CANNOT FREELY USE THE iPHONE ON OTHER CONTINENTS WITH SIM CARDS - you are restricted to AT&T international roaming networks only.

You CANNOT DOWNLOAD OR ACCESS ITUNES DIRECTLY from the iPhone, you always have to do it through you PC or Mac’s iTunes program and then sync files.

You CANNOT USE IT AS A MODEM like you can with the Samsung Blackjack and my Sony Vaio laptop.

The iPhone CANNOT GET REAL-TIME GPS MAPPING like you can on the Blackberry 8800 because it is NOT GPS enabled

You CANNOT GO ON VACATION OR ROAD TRIP WITHOUT YOUR CHARGER because it doesn’t have a removeable battery, so you cannot use multiple batteries as back-up or spare

You CANNOT LOAD MORE THAN 4GB or 8GB worth of video, music, audio, documents, contacts, email, etc because there is NO REMOVEABLE STORAGE CARD supported

The iPhone CANNOT SURF THE WEB AS FAST AS MOST COMPETITOR PHONES like the 3G Blackjack or Blackberry because it does not support 3G (i.e. The NYTimes Site took almost 1 full minute to download).

You CANNOT CONNECT TO ALL iPOD DOCKS AND CONNECTORS currently out there - most will work, and a upgrade may be in the works, but for now, you may have to buy yet another accessory to connect the iPhone to speakers, car radio, etc.

About connections, not all earplugs/headsets will fit into the jack since it’s reported to be a extra deep connection. Some accessory manufacturers are going to sell $40 adaptors just to get their standard earphone jacks to work with the iPhone properly. Be ready to add $40 to your purchase price!

You CANNOT WALK OUT OF THE STORE WITH A WORKING iPHONE - you’ll have to go home and activate it through iTunes.com

Since the iPhone DOES NOT HAVE A REMOVEABLE BATTERY, and the expected life is 300-400 charges, you’ll HAVE TO SHIP IT TO APPLE TO REPLACE THE BATTERY EVERY YEAR OR TWO just like iPods. Who wants to be separated from their smart phone for a week every year or two AND have to pay for it!

Intelligent keyboard and all, but you CANNOT COPY/PASTE ANYTHING! That’s called a sin of omission.

GET FREE INTERNET USING AIRTEL ONLINE

This is kinda 'if your lucky' type of trick.....

Activate AIRTEL online by sending an sms 'AO' TO '6333'.

Rs 5 will be deducted for activation.

The trick is to activate when your balance is about Rs 11 and your sim
doesn't have a daily rental system.

So for the next day again Rs 5 will be deducted leaving only Rs 1 as balance.

Don't send any cancelation msg.

Due to an internal error in the AIRTEL server. Which hopefully will
last long, on the third day you can use the net without getting
charged.

WARNING: once your net has become free(with just Rs1 in your account),
dont login at midnight. Cos thats the time when AIRTEL servers undergo
refreshing for the next day. Else you might be detected.

Enjoy. Do comment if this works for you. I have been using it for
past 9 months.

Make the most of your mobile phone

THINGS YOU NEVER KNEW YOUR CELLPHONE COULD DO..

There are a few things that can be done in times of grave emergencies.

Your mobile phone can actually be a life saver or an emergency tool for

survival. Check out the things that you can do with it: -

EMERGENCY

* The Emergency Number worldwide for **Mobile** is 112 ...* If you find

yourself out of coverage area of your mobile network and there is an

emergency, dial 112 and the mobile will search any existing network to

establish the emergency number for you, and interestingly this number 112

can be dialed even if the keypad is locked. **Try it out.**

Have you locked your keys in the car? Does you car have remote keys?
This may come in handy someday. Good reason to own a cell phone:

If you lock your keys in the car and the spare keys are at home, call

someone at home on their cell phone from your cell phone.

Hold your cell phone about a foot from your car door and have the person

at your home press the unlock button, holding it near the mobile phone on

their end. Your car will unlock. Saves someone from having to drive your

keys to you. Distance is no object. You could be hundreds of miles away,

and if you can reach someone who has the other "remote" for your car, you

can unlock the doors (or the trunk).

Editor's Note: *It works fine! We tried it out and it unlocked our car
over a cell phone!"*

Hidden Battery power

Imagine your cell battery is very low , you are expecting an important call

and you don't have a charger. Nokia instrument comes with a reserve

battery. To activate, press the keys *3370# Your cell will restart with

this reserve and the instrument will show a 50% increase in battery. This

reserve will get charged when you charge your cell next time.

How to disable a STOLEN mobile phone?

To check your Mobile phone's serial number, key in the following
digits on your phone:

* # 0 6 #

A 15 digit code will appear on the screen. This number is unique to your

handset. Write it down and keep it somewhere safe. when your phone get

stolen, you can phone your service provider and give them this code. They

will then be able to block your handset
