Lenovo's hybrid Laptop ideapadU1 is being speculated to reach markets pretty soon. So i am gonna give you a hot spec list and my views on it.
It's the first of its kind. A laptop with a removable LCD screen that magically transforms into a touchscreen slate.
Combined together the device operates as an efficient 11.6-inch (1366 x 768), Windows 7 Home Premium system powered by an Intel Core 2 Duo SU processor (it’s rated to achieve up to 8 hours of battery life). The yumm part comes, when separated, the slate runs on a Qualcomm ARM Snapdragon processor that powers Lenovo’s customized Skylight interface (a version of Linux), which can be used in both portrait and landscape modes. Lenovo estimates that customers will see 6 hours of endurance when the U1Hybrid is used as a tablet. and 3G web-surfing is rated at 5 hours,”.The U1Hybrid features up to 4GB of RAM, up to 160GB of solid state drive storage, Intel’s GMA integrated graphics, two USB ports, an eSATA port, HDMI and VGA outputs, a 4-in-1 media card reader, and a 1.3MP web camera. The slate has 512MB of RAM, a Snapdragon GPU, and up to 16GB SSD.
The swap between the win7 laptop mode to the Skylight slate interface is estimated to be under 7 seconds. Lenovo is said to be working on getting in down under 3 sec. Now that's Impressive. Do all the big heavy stuff on the lappy and when bored, just pull out the screen and continue web surfing and loads more on the slate, maybe lying on a couch.
All said, this is like the next market killer after the low budget netbook erra. $999 Wouldn't sound too pricey for a gadet freak, well your getting two devices at the price of one.
